dead souls
book cover
Chichikov travels from town to town & bargains for deceased serfs from noblemen in an effort to up his status amongst the Russian elite. His only possession is an old chest full of clothing, a carriage, & two awkward living servants.
The book cover was designed by scanning & incorporating different fabrics & textures into the entire layout, similar to the kind possibly found in Chichikov’s chest. The title has been offhandedly cut out of fabric, & the marsh like colors & tones of the cover serve as a metaphor of the desperate mood of the poor & manipulative antihero of this novel.
Countless as the sands of the sea are human passions.
